These students will make a difference in the lives of babies in Cambodia...

A baby’s first cry is one of the most anticipated and welcome sounds in all the world.  But in much of the world, when there is no cry...all hope is lost. These students completed the Helping Babies Breathe Course to make a difference and change that statistic. I am so proud of you all!

Coconut Water in Chuuk Village on a hot day....

Coconut water is low in carbs and lacks sodium but rich in potassium. I heard once that it was used during the war for IV fluids, however I could not find published data to support that fact. If the coconut is not damaged, the water inside should be  sterile and not contaminated.

First Cardiology Conference in Cambodia

What a great Cardiology conference here in Cambodia today! I learned that there is a high incidence of Rheumatic Heart Disease in young people here. The amazing thing is that colleagues stated that they are told "not much strep is seen here." Maybe some medical training is in order for the recognition of GAS as well as Rheumatic Fever.

Overweight Luggage and Prayer

Did you ever pray silently while talking to someone? While checking in at Dulles Airport, the agent informed me that my carry-on bag and personal item was 10 kg overweight. She asked me to move the extra weight items to my checked luggage which would then cause them to weigh over 50 lbs. And yes--it would cost me $100! I explained to the supervisor that the items were medical equipment. She had me move a few other things and I was not charged! Never doubt the power of prayer! On my way to Cambodia....
