"Helping Babies Breathe" course test.....SKMH surprise patient

HBB students had to take a practical exam in order to pass the course. Our "patient" came walking into our "clinic" with ruptured membranes.....and meconium. Thank-you Kimsan, staff at SKMH, for a great performance! So proud of the students who were able to deliver and help the baby breathe within the "Golden Minute."

Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent

1 In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
    let me never be put to shame!
² In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
    incline your ear to me, and save me!
³ Be to me a rock of refuge,
    to which I may continually come;
you have given the command to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress.

Another group of students and staff at Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital trained in "Helping Babies Breathe."This course is built on the premise that assessment at birth and simple newborn care are things that every baby deserves. These students and staff are now equipped to save lives and give a much better start to many babies who struggle to breathe at birth.

Cambodia IMCI Course...learning how to care for children under the age of 5 yrs

Our students learned to classify each child’s health condition using a color coded IMCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) chart as follows:

RED: Very serious condition—refer the patient to the Health Care Center or Hospital immediately

YELLOW: Less serious condition, may need treatment and education in the clinic. Requires follow-up in the clinic.

GREEN: Can be educated in the clinic and begin treatment at home

Cambodia --MTW Faculty and Interns educate Village Health Workers on the IMCI Strategy to save children's lives

Cambodia has a population of over 15 million people with over 31% of the population under the age of 15 years. Many children are still dying under the age of five years with 43% of them newborns.  Mission to the World (MTW) and interns, led by Dr Dale Knutson and Dr Karen McClure have spent the last weeks educating village health worker students in 2 villages on the general danger signs, prevention and effective management of childhood illness also known as the Community-IMCI strategy.
