Village Health Worker students in Prey Thom
Village Health Worker students were given a real life case study today of malnourished 8 month old twin girls in their village and asked to plan meals for a day. They also had to determine the cause of the poor nutrition and a solution. They had to choose a cause--time, energy or resources. Cause: Mother has 3 young children and has no energy or time to cook meals. Solution-- one of the village health worker students has offered to help the mother with cooking and/or watching the children. They explained that they help each other in this very poor village.

Cambodian Nurses trained in Helping Babies Breathe at Mercy Medical Center in Phnom Penh
What is Helping Babies Breathe?
Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) is an evidence-based educational program to teach neonatal resuscitation techniques in resource-limited areas. It is an initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), US Agency for International Development (USAID), Saving Newborn Lives, the National Institute of Child Health and Development, and a number of other global health organizations.
The WHO estimates that one million babies die each year from birth asphyxia (eg. inability to breathe immediately after delivery). The HBB program addresses this challenge as well as helping to move forward Millennium Development Goal #4 (MDG4) reduction of child mortality by two thirds from 1990 to 2015.
The objective of HBB is to train birth attendants in developing countries in the essential skills of newborn resuscitation, with the goal of having at least one person who is skilled in neonatal resuscitation at the birth of every baby.
The MTW (Mission to the World) Cambodia team is committed to training birth attendants in the villages and Health Centers and Hospitals where we are working to help babies breathe and thus save lives.

Please pray for NT....
Please pray for NT.....
NT is a 27 year old young man that we transported to the Health Center for palliative care follow up a few days ago with head and neck cancer that has metastasized. He is now a paraplegic with a Foley catheter in place. NT is cared for at night by his mother but during the day she is unable to be with him as she is a seller in the market. It is heartbreaking to see this young man at the end of his life and we are praying that he would not be alone when his mother is not able to be there. There is no Hospice agency here to offer any help and all care and medication is self pay.
