Thank-you Pastor Sam Aht Nhean for the very passionate
sermon preached on Sunday at Khmer Christian Church in Phnom Penh on Matthew
6:19-24.
This talks about Jesus teaching about money. (Wow we need to be reminded of this all the time!)
Jesus was very clear that having the wrong intentions leads
to our hearts being in the wrong place. What we treasure most will control us.
If our money and/or possessions become too important in our life, that will
control and be the reason for every decision that we make. We live in a very
materialistic society where many people serve “money.” They may spend their entire
lives collecting and saving and storing it only to die and leave it behind.
Their desire for money and what it can buy for them outweighs their commitment
to God. Whatever you store up, you will spend most of your time and energy
thinking about. I have to ask myself ….what occupies more of my thoughts, time
and efforts? Is it material possessions, money or is it God? For I cannot serve
2 masters!

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
20
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22
"The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,
23
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24
"No one
can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and money.
