Cambodia, is a developing country  about the size of Missouri with a population of more than 13 million. More than one third of the people live on less than $1 per day. In 1975, the Marxist Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia, and under their rule over one million people were executed, died from disease, or starved to death. Nearly all the educated were imprisoned or killed, leaving only 42 physicians known to remain in the country by 1980. These events severely burdened the development of adequate healthcare within the country, and Cambodia to this day still struggles to deliver healthcare to its people.
